We wanted to see which grocery store had the best prices between Smith's, Sprouts, and Walmart. So we put together a small grocery list and went shopping!
Starting with tomatoes, Smith's was having a sale for those who had a membership card, so their tomatoes only cost $0.88 per pound. The next cheapest was Sprouts at $0.98 per pound, and Walmart had the highest price at $1.98 per pound.
Walmart had the cheapest bananas at $0.57 per pound, while Smith's and Sprouts tied at $0.59 per pound.
Prices for ground beef were relatively close - Smith's was the cheapest at $3.79 per pound, followed by Walmart at $3.88 per pound. Sprouts was the most expensive at $3.99 per pound.
Smith's had the cheapest store-brand white bread at $1.25 per loaf. Next was Walmart's bread at $1.48 per loaf, and Sprouts was priced the highest at $2.29 per loaf.
When it comes to 2 percent milk, Walmart was the cheapest at $2.39 per gallon. Smith's came in second place at $2.89 per gallon, and Sprouts was slightly more expensive at $2.99 per gallon.
For a dozen large, grade AA eggs, Walmart had the best price at $1.68. Smith's was the next cheapest at $1.89 per dozen, and Sprouts was the most expensive at $2.19 per dozen.
If you're buying tomatoes, bananas, ground beef, white bread, 2 percent milk, and a dozen eggs, Smith's will be your best bet at $11.29 (before taxes). The next cheapest is Walmart at $11.98, and the most expensive is Sprouts at $13.03.
