A bicyclist is fighting for his life at an area hospital after being hit by a truck in west Las Vegas.
"He is in critical condition," said Sgt. Richard Strader with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. "He has brain injuries and spine injuries."
Police say it appears he was not wearing a helmet but was riding on the sidewalk, which is legal.
According to police, the crash occurred near Alta Drive and Antelope Way around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
"We're not sure if the driver lost consciousness," said Strader.
That driver, who has not yet been identified, was traveling eastbound on Alta when cops say he crossed over into oncoming traffic and jumped a curb.
"He threw the bicyclist into the road and into the path of that white Corvette but the Corvette did not hit the bicyclist."
The driver of the Corvette was released from the scene. He didn't want to give his name but told 13 Action News he "feels bad for the guy hit."
As for the driver of the red pickup truck, he was taken to jail after resisting arrest and acting in a "suspicious manner."
"We don't know if he was trying to assist the bicyclist but he was acting in a strange manner," said Sgt. Strader.
Following the crash he says the driver got into an altercation with a responding officer.
"It was more wrestling," he said. "He didn't assault the officer. He was basically struggling. He wasn't listening to the officer or his instructions. He was trying to get away from him. So he tried to stop him but he turned around and there was a short short struggle."
The officer was treated for minor injuries.
The name of the bicyclist was not immediately available.
