A pedestrian died after he was struck by a car Tuesday evening.

The crash was reported around 5:07 p.m. near Jones Boulevard and Alta Drive.

Las Vegas police Sgt. Richard Strader says traffic was backed up to near U.S. 95 when a pedestrian who was cutting between those cars stepped out into the center two-way turn lane as a car was making its way up that lane.

Police say the pedestrian was crossing mid-block without a crosswalk when the 30-year-old was hit by a Honda CRV.

The pedestrian was initially taken to UMC Trauma where he later died. He was identified as Drew Matthew Alleman of Las Vegas. The Clark County coroner ruled he died of blunt force trauma from the crash.

Jones Boulevard was closed until 10 p.m. as police investigated.

This is the 85th-related traffic fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction in 2016.
