Parents say every day, drivers are careless around their children at Mathis Elementary School near Blue Diamond Road and Decatur Boulevard. Even though there are crossing guards, that's not enough.

"My safety concern is really high because these kids are just waking up in the morning to go to school. They're not looking for anything unexpected to happen but these drivers seem like they take that into consideration."

One of the main issues are the school traffic lights not being turned on, so we wanted to know why.

13 Action News started with the Clark County School District. We were told the lights were installed a few months ago, and it's up to the county to take over.

So, that was our next call. Clark County said crews are waiting on the electricity to be turned on. Then, NV Energy told us, they were waiting on the county to approve their plan.

13 Action News has been making calls and sending emails about this for the last week. We are going to stay on this issue until these lights are turned on.
