Police are investigating a stabbing that left a man dead east of downtown Las Vegas early Saturday.

Police responded to the stabbing around 2:30 a.m. in the 300 block of North 16th Street. As officers arrived, other officers noticed a man chasing a woman near Stewart Avenue and Bruce Street. The man was detained while the woman directed first responders to an adult man suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the residence.

The man was transported to UMC Trauma where he was later pronounced dead. His identity will be released by the Clark County coroner.

Homicide detectives determined the two men were arguing over the woman and the argument escalated when the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Julio Aguero-Alvarez, allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife.

Aguero-Alvarez was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and faces charges of murder with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with deadly weapon.

This is the 35th homicide being investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2016.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
