An inmate died after he was found unresponsive at the Nye County Detention Center Tuesday morning.

Around 6:20 a.m., Nye County Sheriff's Office Detention deputies were conducting head count at the detention center in Pahrump and discovered a male inmate unresponsive on the floor of his cell.

Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue responded, however, the man was pronounced deceased. He was identified as 38-year-old James Duett.

Nye County General Assignment Detectives and Internal Affairs Detectives responded and processed the scene. The body has been turned over to the Clark County coroner for the autopsy.

The inmate was housed alone in the cell. Nye County officials said at no point did the inmate notify staff of any issues or request any help.

Investigators have no suspicion of foul play at this time.

He was in custody pending charges of under the influence of a controlled substance, destruction of jail property and was pending court appearances in the Fifth Judicial District Court and Pahrump Justice Court.
