UPDATE AUG. 29: It's official, organizers behind Peacestock 51 say the festival has been canceled.

David VanDerBeek, the organizer for the event, shared the update with 13 Action News on Thursday, a little more than a week after Nye County denied a permit request for the "Storm Area 51" inspired festival.

On Wednesday, the county took steps to prepare for event by pre-signing an emergency declaration, which allows for an expedited process if an emergency develops over the three-day event scheduled to begin Sept. 19.

VanDerBeek shared the following statement regarding the decision to cancel the event:

We gave the county a new location in Beatty that would be perfect and had a letter of intent prepared and the local government still feels it's too risky to add us to the agenda. We'd still have to go through the BOCC in all cases. They are preparing for an emergency. We totally respect that. We're working on long term relationships and we're not going to defy the government or add to the emergency. My team is already working on a different event. The last thing we want is our names or event associated with negativity or conflict. We hope Lincoln County has a safe, great event. The most important thing here is that they will declare a state of emergency in Nye County and we know they are preparing. We'll leave it to the professionals. Lives are far more important than festivals. Thank you for your interest and blessings to you.

Two other "Storm Area 51" inspired events, Alien Stock and Area 51 Basecamp, are scheduled to take place in next month in Lincoln County.

Officials there have also looked into declaring a state of emergency to bring in the funds for more medical and law enforcement resources. Thousands of people are expected to descend upon Rachel and Armagosa Valley.
