People stared as dozens of UNLV students marched across campus in the "No Shame Slut Walk" Wednesday.

The students chanted while holding posters that read "I'm not asking for it" and "stop rape."

The point of the walk is to raise awareness, along with a little bit of controversy, when it comes to sexual assault.

UNLV student Alexa views this march as a way of fighting back after she says she was raped at 13 years old.

"It was one of the most horrible things to happen to me," Alexa said. "That's how I lost my virginity because I was raped at 13 years old."

Many other women showed up because they say they're tired of being objectified by the things they wear.

"Just because I'm dressed like x, y and z, it's not OK for you to come up to me and touch me," said organizer Jovanah Watkins. "It's not like I'm asking for it."

Despite many students agreeing with the purpose of the march, they didn't agree with the name, especially the words "slut walk."

"You know you're going against it, but you're using that term and you have it all on posters," said student Rob Rongel, who still supported the message of the march.

Organizers said the use of the word "slut" has a purpose.

"The idea of calling it a slut walk is to take the power back from the word," said Eden Alem.

The main message here: sexual assault is never acceptable, no matter what.
