LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The following is a roundup of breaking news from around the Las Vegas valley.
Las Vegas police are responding to two separate homicide events in the valley. The first one occurred at 3:48 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Flamingo Road, near South Decatur Boulevard and the second one occurred at 5:07 p.m. in the 900 block of East Sahara Avenue, near Maryland Parkway. Police have not released details about either homicide yet, but are expected to release more information soon.
North Las Vegas police say that three people have been shot at an apartment complex near Civic Center Drive and East Cheyenne Avenue. Two of the victims have been transported to the hospital with critical injuries. No one is in custody at this time and a perimeter has been established. Please avoid the area while police investigate.
A three car collision occurred on East Flamingo Road east of South Maryland Parkway around 3:23 p.m.. Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated a 2010 Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on Flamingo east of Maryland Parkway in the rightmost travel lane. A 2014 Toyota Rav4 was stopped for a red light on westbound Flamingo at Maryland Parkway and a 2012 Lexus CT200 was stopped directly behind the Toyota. The Nissan left the roadway to the right, traveling across the sidewalk and into the decorative landscaping. The Nissan then re-entered the roadway into the rightmost travel lane which was occupied by the Lexus and the Toyota. The Nissan collided with the Lexus, striking the rear of the Lexus. This drove the Lexus forward causing it to strike the Toyota. The 72-year-old driver of the Nissan, Jose Ortiz, was pronounced deceased at Sunrise hospital. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section and marks the 137th traffic related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction for 2018.
Police say a 21-year-old male was fatally stabbed outside of a home in the 3500 block of Stanley Avenue near Owens Avenue and Pecos Road. The stabbing happened outside a house party. No arrests at this time.
