LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Artists are now flocking to Las Vegas at the height of their careers.

Just as the city was celebrating the residency of Lady Gaga and Drake, the news broke that Cardi B is coming to town.

The rapper will be one of several performers who will have residencies at a new club inside the Palm's hotel-casino. KAOS is also scheduled to open in April.

"The amount ... of data... that surround booking artist is not to be ignored," said Melinda Sheckells, an entertainment reporter.

Sheckells says casinos and promoters look at certain key factors.

"How much of a following do they have? How much of a discretionary income does their fan base have?" Sheckells said.

An artist, like Cardi B, will bring the crowds. The tourists will spend money at our hotels, casinos, and restaurants.

Sheckells says one of our biggest markets in California. Our neighbors frequently come to Las Vegas for a unique experience.

For the artist, a residency is easier than touring.

"We have an incredible assortment of concert venues in town that make it very advantageous for an artist to come here, perform, big cash paychecks," said Sheckells.

These factors are causing the city's entertainment landscape to evolve.

One change is that more people are attending shows in a nightclub setting rather than a traditional theater.
