CARSON CITY (AP) — Nevada's unemployment rate held steady at 4% last month while about 5,900 new jobs were added to the state's economy.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said Wednesday that new applications for unemployment benefits were lower in May than the same month last year, with about 9,400 claims coming in.

The department released a statement from Gov. Steve Sisolak saying that the report is encouraging and Nevada's jobless rate is the lowest it's been since April 2006.

The professional and business sectors added the most jobs in May up from a year earlier. The most job losses were in taxi and limousine services.
