Authorities say a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was off-duty when he was arrested for DUI in Reno early Friday morning.
Reno police said 39-year-old Christopher J. Wirtanen was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Friday.
Court records show Wirtanen now faces a misdemeanor charge for a first-time DUI. He was booked in Washoe County Jail with bond set at $2,000 but he was released on his own recognizance.
The Nevada Department of Public Safety said Wirtanen is a trooper but that he was not on duty at the time of his arrest. He's been placed on administrative duty and is cooperating with the investigation.
Wirtanen couldn't be reached for comment Tuesday and it's unclear if he has an attorney.
He's due in court next on Feb. 1.
