HENDERSON (KTNV) — Nevada State College announced the Nevada System of Higher Education approved its newest Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Data Science.

Pending approval from NSC’s accrediting body, the Data Science program will become the only one of its kind in the state of Nevada.

According to Hanover Research, there is an expected 24.6% annual growth rate for data science-related occupations in the Western region between 2014-2024, which far exceeds the average growth rate for other fields.

A degree in Interdisciplinary Data Science program will allow students an opportunity to pursue careers such as data analyst, operations manager, database administrator, and software engineer – professions that typically earn salaries above the market.

Students who graduate from Nevada State College’s program will be well-versed in data management and analysis, but also will possess the ability to create data reports and visualizations that can help other stakeholders understand complex information and make evidence-based decisions.

While enrolled in the program, students will take classes in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analysis and Data Visualization.

Students also will participate in courses in their own substantive area of interest, such as business or communication, which will allow them to gain discipline-specific knowledge.
