Posted

The Nevada Department of Corrections is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate Wednesday morning.

Around 5:20 a.m., correctional officers found inmate Sal Auditore hanging from a bed sheet tied to the upper bunk in his cell in the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City.

Responding staff immediately began life-saving measures. They were quickly assisted by the Carson City Fire Department who responded to the scene, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Auditore was pronounced dead at approximately 5:58 a.m.

28-year-old Auditore came from Washoe County on Dec. 31, 2014 and was serving 5 to 14 years for burglary and making counterfeit money.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Coroner responded and an autopsy is being scheduled. Next of kin have been notified.
