UPDATE DEC. 29: The Animal Foundation says Luca, the cat rescued by Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers on Dec. 23, is now with a rescue partner due to a fractured leg and some other injuries.

He is recovering under the care of the Tommy Cat Foundation. The organizations says they rescue and care for cats and kittens with special needs.

You can learn more about the organization and about Luca's progress on their Facebook page.

Luca's rescue was the second time this month that NHP troopers rescued a cat from a busy Las Vegas road.

On Dec. 5, troopers saved a separate feline in the center median of the Interstate 15 near Spring Mountain Road during rush hour.
