CARSON CITY (AP) — Nevada forestry officials are convening a virtual summit to help the public learn how to protect their homes and communities from wildfires.

Next week's summit follows a devastating 2020 wildfire season across the Western U.S.

Last week, two late-season blazes in the eastern Sierra Nevada foothills left one person dead in a blaze near the California community of Walker and destroyed homes there and in Reno.

The state Division of Forestry said its "Nevada Network of Fire Adapted Communities Summit" will be held on Dec. 3.
