PAHRUMP (KTNV) — A teenage boy is recovering from a gunshot wound in Pahrump after his father mistakenly thought he was an intruder, according to police.

Nye County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call on May 23 at 10 p.m. at a Paruhmp home.

Police say a 13-year-old boy was shot by father.

The boy does not live with his father. According to officials, he texted his dad that he would be coming over to the house but did not get a response.

The father heard a noise and grabbed his gun before seeing dark figure, police say.

The teen was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Gun safety experts said one thing to be learned from this near tragedy is for gun owners to keep a light source near their gun if they are keeping it in their house for protection overnight.
