Going to the gym can become monotonous. It can feel like the same exercises over and over. Well, now there are gyms popping around the country and taking fitness to a whole new level.

Wayne Lilyestrom was searching for a new gym routine because he was tired of lifting weights. He stumbled up Ninja Nation , a gym based off the show “American Ninja Warrior.”

At the age of 40, he was ready to ditch the gym and push his limit in a safe environment.

“None of those integrate the agility that we have here, especially I’m middle aged and so I’m not as flexible as I use to be,” said Lilyestrom.

Ninja Nation is setup similar to the show. It has obstacle courses, rope swings, trampolines and so much more.

One of the head trainers, Rainer Joandt, was on the TV show.

“It’s challenge-based functional playful fitness,” said Joandt.

He says Ninja Nation workouts are disguised workouts, because they’re so fun. You don’t even realize your pushing your limits.

Ninja Nation is not the only gym putting a new spin on fitness. In Buffalo, you can belong to a Superhero Training Academy with a similar concept, using obstacle courses to build strength and agility. In Denver, there’s a Tough Mudder gym , creating exercises to simulate the actual endurance event.

Staying fit and healthy doesn’t have to be boring, sometimes you have to think outside the box and have a little fun.

“I can’t do half the stuff the more advance people do but I still get a good workout,” said Lilyestrom.
