Soldier returns from deployment, surprises family at State of the Union

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address was full of surprises, but one was particularly heartwarming.

A soldier who had been on leave surprised his wife and their two children when he showed up at the speech Tuesday night.

First, the president introduced Amy Williams and the two kids, who were sitting next to first lady Melania Trump.

After Amy stood for applause, Trump announced that her husband – Sgt. First Class Townsend Williams – was actually waiting to surprise her.

The couple and their children then hugged as the room cheered.

Sgt. Williams had been in Afghanistan on his fourth deployment to the Middle East.

The president used the family as an example of the sacrifices military families make for the United States.
