LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — NASCAR has announced that its annual Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Awards show is moving to Nashville, which is sometimes referred to as "NashVegas."

The awards show has been held in Las Vegas since 2009. Before moving to Las Vegas, it was held in New York City for 28 years.

The awards show will take place Dec. 5, 2019, at the Music City Center in downtown Nashville.

Nashville has reportedly been making a push to bring NASCAR racing back to town. The city served as a host to the NASCAR Cup Series from 1958 to 1984.

The Tennessean says that Speedway Motorsports, which owns Bristol Motor Speedway and sever other NASCAR tracks, struck a deal with fairgrounds racetrack operator Tony Formosa that paved the way for NASCAR's return.

Other Champion's Week events will be announced at a later date.
