LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — For many living near Vassiliadis Elementary School at 215 Antelope Ridge Drive, the morning was full of mountain lion sightings.

Pictures of the mountain lion started popping up on social media and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department started receiving calls right before 6 a.m.

"I noticed something in front of me, I looked up and the mountain lion was staring right at me," says Champie Douglas.

Douglas lives in the area, and saw the lion right outside his backyard.

“It jumped the neighbors yard and it circled back to where they caught it," says Douglas.

Police were able to track down the animal and keep it contained until Animal Control arrived.

No injuries were reported while the mountain lion was on the loose.

"We are very thankful there were no injuries associated to this," Lt Michelle Tabarez with LVMPD.

Authorities say the animal, which weighed between 70 and 100 pounds, was sedated, captured, and is on its way to being released back into the wild.
