A 13-year-old boy was critically injured after being hit by a vehicle in southwest Las Vegas Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred around 8:50 a.m. near the intersection of Fort Apache Road and Arby Avenue, which is north of Warm Springs Road. The teen was riding a bicycle to school when he was hit by a Chevy Avalanche.

Sgt. Richard Strader said the boy was riding fast around the corner and then popped up over the sidewalk. The driver of the Chevy told police he came out of nowhere.

Strader said the Chevy was not speeding when the crash occurred. The driver is cooperating with police.
