Jonathan Harvey was awarded the Civilian Medal of Valor on Feb. 29 by the Nevada Department of Public Safety after confronting an unruly passenger armed with a knife on a Greyhound Bus.

According to a press release from the Nevada Highway Patrol, Harvey was the driver of the Greyhound Bus when the incident took place on Sept. 22, 2017. He confronted the passenger after stopping the bus on northbound Interstate 15 near the Sloan exit.

NHP says Harvey attempted to shield passengers from injury and was stabbed three times in the process. He suffered serious injuries but ultimately prevented other passengers from getting hurt or killed.

The Civilian Medal of Valor is the highest civilian honor from the Department of Public Safety.
