Man serving life in prison for murder has died

Mark Stevens, a 55-year-old inmate at Northern Nevada Correctional Center, has passed away.

According to the Nevada Department of Corrections, Stevens collapsed at the center on Dec. 22. He was transported to a hospital by paramedics with Carson City Fire Department. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Stevens was serving a sentence of live with possibility of parole for first degree murder and a consecutive sentence of life with possibility of parole for use of a deadly weapon enhancement. He had been incarcerated since Feb. 1, 1988.

The local coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine cause of death. Relatives have been notified.
