LVMPD officer injured in Tuesday crash

An officer is injured after a Tuesday morning crash.
 
It happened around 7:06 a.m. on Washington Avenue and Tonopah Drive.
 
Evidence at the scene indicates a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department vehicle was southbound on Tonopah Drive, crossing Washington Avenue on a red signal with red lights and siren activated.
 
A Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound on Washington Avenue crossing Tonopah Drive on a green signal.
 
The left front of the Volkswagen Jetta struck the right front of the police car and both vehicles continued toward the southeast corner.
 
The police car came to a stop facing southeast in the intersection near the southeast corner. The Volkswagen Jetta continued south of the intersection, over the east curb, and into a block wall bordering the sidewalk.
 
The Volkswagen Jetta came to rest facing south on the east sidewalk, against the block wall.
 
Both drivers were transported to University Medical Center for minor injuries and released after treatment.
 
This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigation Section.
