At this morning’s Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) Board of Directors meeting, the organization said goodbye to two long-term board members and chairs of the board.

Clark County Commissioners Lawrence Weekly and Larry Brown have both termed out from their elected positions on the Clark County Commission and as a result, today was their last LVCVA board meeting.

Lawrence Weekly has served on the LVCVA Board since 2009 and served as Chair from 2015-2019. During his tenure, Mr. Weekly presided during a time of development at the Las Vegas Convention Center with the acquisition and implosion of The Riviera to make room for the new West Hall expansion.

Mr. Weekly’s tenure also included a time of growth in international visitation with foreign airlines launching new air service to and from Las Vegas, which helped increase international visitation by nearly 30 percent during his time on the board.

Larry Brown has served as Chair since January 2019, but his time on the LVCVA Board dates to 2003. Much of the progress in construction on the West Hall unfolded during Mr. Brown’s time on the board.

This also included the start of tunneling on the Convention Center Loop, Elon Musk’s innovative underground transportation system.

Just over a year later, that project is nearly complete. The LVCVA is also thankful for Mr. Brown’s service during the unprecedented three-month shutdown resulting from the global pandemic.
