LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — As we get closer to Christmas, many are still looking for that last minute perfect gift. However, all that holiday shopping could be making you a target for criminals.

Some criminals are hoping their victims will have extra spending money or gifts in the backseat of their car.

Kimi Monaco with Battle Born Krav Maga says your best defense is a good offense.

"Don't get confused with the happy holiday spirit and not think this is a time when there are predators out there and people with bad intentions," says Monaco.

Here are some ways you can stay safe this holiday season.

  1. If you must shop at night, park in a well-lit area.
  2. Don't leave packages or gifts on the seat of your car. Lock them in the trunk so they're out of view.
  3. Feel free to ask mall security to escort you back to your car.
