LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Local child Dario Javier has had a busy week.

First, the 12-year-old wrapped up sixth grade at Hyde Park Magnet School.

Then, this weekend he'll be off to Washington D.C., where he'll compete in the 92nd annual Scripps National Spelling Bee.

"I'm right now feeling very nervous but at the same time also pretty excited," said Javier, who's been competing in spelling bees since he was in pre-Kindergarten.

Javier has been preparing for his first Scripps National Spelling Bee by pouring over the study guides and his dictionary. But he said he doesn't overdo the studying, not wanting to stress himself out.

He said although he does feel the pressure of competing in such a big event, he's trying to absorb the moment.

"I want to just bask in it," said Javier.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee begins this weekend, and more information about the event can be found here.
