Police in Las Vegas say three people are dead in a neighborhood where they believe a gunman shot and killed a woman in one house before he was found dead with another person in a second home.

Officer Larry Hadfield said the incident ended about 8:15 a.m. Friday, about an hour after officers responding to a call of a shooting found a woman dead in a home on Hardtack Circle. The road is a cul-de-sac in an area south of McCarran International Airport.

Hadfield says crisis negotiators tried to contact the gunman before SWAT officers entered the second home and found him and the second person dead.

Names weren't immediately made public.

Hadfield says no shots were fired by police, and a motive for the shooting wasn't immediately clear.

During a press conference held shortly before noon, a police spokesperson said that the preliminary investigation indicated that a man in his 40's went to his female neighbor's home and shot her after she opened the door. He then retreated to his own home where police found him and his neighbor's child, who was under the age of 10, deceased after a brief standoff.

The child had also been shot. However, it is not known exactly when and where the child was killed. The man killed himself. The police became aware of the initial shooting after another child went to a neighbor's house and alerted the neighbor.

Police also said that there have been previous problems between the man and woman.

The names and ages of the victims have not been released. Neither has the name and age of the suspect.

Friends of the family have launched a Go Fund Me page for the family, which identifies the woman.
