One swipe and thieves could have your credit card information in seconds. Scammers are stealing your data from outdoor ATMs and gas pump terminals.

Las Vegas police call it card skimming and the department took to social media to address the issue, revealing shocking and terrifying information about this high-tech scam.

Skimming is a device which captures payment card information and PINs resulting in criminals stealing your money and identity.

While skimming may be a difficult crime to detect, Detective Jefferson Grace says if you stay alert and follow these tips you wont become a victim.

“When paying at a gas pump with a credit card look at the security sticker on the pump of the sticker has been broken or damage use a different pump or pay inside,” Grace said.

Grace says residents should use a credit card rather than a debit card whenever possible because credit cards are not linked to your cash and offer more protection against fraud.
