UPDATE: Coroner identifies woman shot and killed over alleged love triangle

JUNE 29 UPDATE: The Clark County Coroner has identified the victim as 18-year-old Shania Lanee James. Her cause of death was gunshot wounds to the back and the back of the head. James' death has been ruled a homicide.

JUNE 24 UPDATE: Las Vegas police have arrested 28-year-old Shamiya Todd in connection to the shooting on Wednesday night that left a young woman dead.

Lt. Ray Spencer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said during a press briefing after the shooting that the incident was a result of a love triangle.


He indicated that the victim was the girlfriend of a man who was also at the scene.

He also said that the man’s ex-wife was present when the police arrived.

LVMPD has identified Todd as the woman who was hanging from a balcony when they arrived.

They determined during the investigation that she is the suspected shooter.

Todd was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of open murder.

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says they are investigating a homicide in the 8900 block of Jaquita Ave. near Durango Drive and Elkhorn.

According to LVMPD, a young woman in her late teens was killed.

Las Vegas police received a 911 call around 10 p.m. from a woman who said another woman had been shot.

When they arrived, they found that woman who had jumped from a balcony to escape.

They made contact with a man inside who agreed to come outside with 3 children.

The police found the young woman inside the residence. She was dead at the scene.

The police took both the man, who is in his early 40s, and the woman into custody. At this time, they do not know who shot the victim. Lt. Ray Spencer said during a press briefing that they are hearing conflicting versions of what happened.

The 3 children, who are all in their single digits, were not harmed. They are in the care of Child Protective Services.

Spencer described the situation as a lover's triangle. The deceased young woman was the man's girlfriend. The other woman is his ex-wife.

The Clark County coroner will identify the deceased.
