The coronavirus pandemic has hit Las Vegas hard. It has resulted in the loss of jobs, closure of hotels and casinos, closure of shows on the Las Vegas Strip, loss of large conventions like CES in January, reduced capacity at restaurants and bars etc.

According to the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority, the visitor count for the month of October (the last month that numbers are available for) was down 49.4% from 2019. Hotel occupancy rate dropped 43.1%.

The average room rate in October 2020 was $104, which was 23% below the same month in 2019 when it was $143.

A quick check of rates on LasVegas.com revealed the cost of hotel rooms in Las Vegas have been slashed as much as 50-70% at some properties for the first week of January. The average daily room rate in January 2019 was $156.53 and $150.45 in January 2018.

It currently appears to be about $45 to $50 (midweek) for January.

The list below includes the base rate for Jan. 6, 2021, and the average room rate previously. Although there are a couple of properties that have waived resort fees for locals, a standard resort fee is now more than the cost of many rooms in Las Vegas.

Regardless, even with the resort fees, if you want or need to stay in a hotel room during the first week of January, you can probably score a pretty good deal.
