A new segment of Interstate 11 is set to open five days ahead of schedule.

The Nevada Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that motorists will be able to drive on the new 2-mile long, two-lane northbound portion of Interstate 11 between Foothills Drive to the U.S Highway 93 interchange in Boulder City starting Saturday morning.

The first portion of the interstate that runs between U.S. Highway 95 and Railroad Pass Casino opened in August.

Once fully completed, the interstate will stretch from Mexico to Canada.

The transportation department is overseeing first phase of the project and will continue opening sections through April.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada will take over the second phase of the project which it expects will be ready by October.
