Inmate who threatened to kill Jimmy Carter, raped elderly woman dies in prison

62-year-old inmate Callisha Lakota has died. He passed away at 6 p.m. Dec. 25 in the Regional Medical Facility at Northern Nevada Correctional Center located in Carson City.

Lakota had been an inmate since July 1988. He was serving 60 months to life for sexual assault; 60 months to life for assaulting person over 65; 80 months to 20 years for attempted sexual assault; and 40 months to 10 years for embezzlement.

According to the Elko Daily Free Press, Lakota raped a 65-year-old woman in Montello and embezzled another woman's truck. Lakota also pled guilty for threatening to kill President Jimmy Carter in 1978.

Cause of death was not released. An autopsy will be conducted. The Nevada Department of Corrections has been unable to locate a next of kin. Anyone with information show call the NDOC at 775-887-3309.
