Washoe County sheriff's deputies have identified the woman whose body was found in a burning vehicle north of Reno last month but they say the circumstances surrounding her death remain a mystery.

The county medical examiner's office confirmed Tuesday the body of 51-year-old Christine Townsend of Reno was found March 20 in a burning car on American Flat Road about 2 miles north of the Reno Stead Airport.

Sheriff's spokesman Bob Harmon says she last was seen earlier that day in Sparks in the area of G Street. Her truck was a gray 2004 Toyota pickup.

Investigators are asking for anyone who may have seen Townsend or her truck that day between the hours of 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. to contact the sheriff's detective division at 775-328-3320 or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.
