LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Former Clark County School District Board of Trustee member Kevin Child is weighing in on criticism from Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak directed at Dr. Jesus Jara regarding Assembly Bill 2.

“The money goes to each school, and it follows the student so you just can’t rip that away,” Child said.

Gov. Sisolak and Nevada Department of Education Superintendent Jhone Ebert sent out statements regarding the bill Tuesday.

“Leadership requires honesty. Unfortunately, that is not what we get from Superintendent Jara,” Gov. Sisolak said. “Clark County students, staff, and families deserve better.”

“It’s kind of a sad thing when you hear the leader of a state do that, again on the other hand you have to look at all parties involved,” said Child.

He also says wherever the problems are stemming from when it comes to battling the budget shortfall, the solution must not include minimizing school communities or students.

“Maybe the failure of the state, maybe it was the failure of CCSD, but all parties need to be sitting at the table discussing this prior to this special session,” Child said.
