Flight headed to San Francisco diverted, lands in Las Vegas

UPDATE 2:57 P.M.: American Airlines provided an additional update, saying the flight has pushed back from the gate and will be airborne shortly.

UPDATE 2:20 P.M.: American Airlines flight 2061 was diverted due to an ill passenger and first responders met the aircraft upon arrival at the gate, the airlines says. The flight will re-depart for San Francisco shortly, according to the company.

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- An American Airlines flight heading to San Francisco, Calif. was diverted and landed in Las Vegas shortly before 1 p.m., according to McCarran Airport.

American Airlines says it was diverted due to an "ill passenger."

The company did not specify what the illness was or if anyone was transported to a hospital.

13 Action News has asked the airlines for additional information, including the flight number and if there is any impact to operations but have not heard back yet.
