WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
May 11-15: Open house from 1 to 8 p.m. at Downtown Container Park (chance for future customers to become familiar with products)
May 14: Sneak preview shopping day for Family (loyalty program) members from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 2 to 6 p.m. May 14. Reservations required.
May 16: Customers can start lining up for the grand opening on May 18
May 18: Doors open at 9 a.m. Opening day activities begin at 6 a.m.
Opening day activities include a German wheel performer, showgirls, live bands and stilt walkers. There may also be giveaways and promotions although no information about such has been released. However, that has been standard practice at previous IKEA openings.

The Swedish and American flags will also be raised during a formal flag raising ceremony and the store's 300 employees will sing "Star Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful."

There will also be a log-sawing rather than the traditional ribbon cutting.
Grand opening celebrations will continue through the weekend with roaming entertainers throughout the store.
GIVEAWAYS
First 42 adults in line on May 18 will receive a free Ektorp three-seat sofa (value $399)
Next 100 adults will receive a free Poang armchaire (value $79)
First 100 children in line will receive a free Famnig heart-shaped soft toy (value $4.99)
First 2.500 adults will receive a random prize envelope with IKEA gift cards ranging from $10 to $250 or a food voucher
First 100 adults bringing proof their birthday is the same as the store's will receive a gift card for $42
On May 19, the first 42 adults will receive a free queen-sized Haugesund mattress
In addition, there will be a drawing to win one of ten $1,000 IKEA gift cards.
