Firefighters responded to a building fire around 10:19 p.m. Friday after receiving reports that a person was trapped inside.
Crews found one person unconscious on the first floor of a building near 3380 Athens Street. The person was taken to the hospital along with another patient.
Two dead animals were also located in the building.
Witnesses say that neighbors used ground ladders to help people on the second floor of the building escape.
The American Red Cross is assisting 15 people displaced by the fire. Damage is estimated at $100,000. The cause is under investigation.
