UPDATE MAY 16: Child Protective Services had a history with the Nicholson family that started in January 2016.

According to the arrest report, Brandon Nicholson's son had cuts and bruises covering his body in multiple stages of healing.

13 Action News also learned Child Protective Services opened an investigation into neglect back in April, and while that case was still open, another report was made in May. The family was provided "appropriate referrals to community resources."

That case was closed and another report alleging neglect came in July. But that case was found to be unsubstantiated.

ORIGINAL STORY

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have arrested a father in the beating death of his son.

Brandon Nicholson now faces multiple felony charges including open murder by child abuse and child abuse with substantial bodily harm.

At approximately 2:09 p.m. Friday, officers responded to an apartment located in the 4600 block of Vegas Drive after receiving a call about an unresponsive 3-year-old boy. It was initially reported that the child had possibly drowned in the bathtub, but this was later ruled out

The child was transported to the UMC Trauma by paramedics who performed life-saving measures. Unfortunately, the child’s injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The child's death was investigated by the LVMPD Abuse and Neglect section. Police say the toddler had severe bruising all over his body.

Nicholson is being held at the Clark County Detention Center
