A 75-year-old man is dead after a crash on Saturday.
It was reported around 9:55 a.m. near Washington Avenue and Bruce Street.
Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicate the Chevrolet Corvette was traveling westbound on Washington Avenue west of Bruce Street, at a high rate of speed, when the driver lost control and began sliding sideways.
The Corvette struck the north curb drove up on the sidewalk, struck a palm tree, reentered the roadway, and came to rest. The driver was transported to UMC Trauma where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
This is the 44th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2016.
This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.
