The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department would like to remind the community of the recent changes in Nevada law as it relates to drones.

It is illegal to fly a drone within 5 miles of an airport without the airport authority’s permission.

Due to the Las Vegas Strip being within 5 miles of McCarran International Airport, the LVMPD will be looking for violators who are flying drones along the Las Vegas Strip during the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Officers who observe drones flying along the Strip will immediately have the operator secure their drone.

If an operator fails to secure their drone, the officer may impound the drone and the operator may face further criminal charges.
