A North Las Vegas man died in a crash on U.S. 95 north of Searchlight Sunday evening.

Around 7:15 p.m., a silver Ford pickup was traveling northbound on U.S. 95 north of mile marker 32, approximately 12 miles north of Searchlight, in the left travel lane, when the left rear tire of the Ford experienced a tread separation, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and it began to rotate counterclockwise. The driver failed to maintain the Ford’s travel lane and it then entered the west paved shoulder. The pickup continued to rotate as it traveled northwest into the dirt median and overturned.

The 50-year-old male driver, identified as North Las Vegas resident Gerardo Rodriguez-Zuniga, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The 45-year-old female passenger was transported to University Medical Center with injuries deemed to be not life threatening.

Preliminary investigation indicates that both occupants were restrained with seatbelts.
