LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The kickoff to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo began in downtown Las Vegas Wednesday night.

The 33rd annual Downtown Hoedown at the Fremont Street Experience featured six country music performers on the main stages. The Downtown Hoedown is the yearly free party to welcome the rodeo back to town.

“It’s just the great entertainment. The family of the rodeo,“ said John Dady who was in town from South Dakota. “Everybody loves it. We love it. We just want to promote it. “

The rodeo opens Thursday for a 10-day run at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Tammy Schwert is back at the rodeo after an eight-year absence. After doing some shopping at Cowboy Christmas she was ready to see Dylan Scott and Rodney Atkins perform all their hits.

“I come with a couple of girlfriends,” she said. “And we come and do some shopping, watch the rodeo, drink some beer and have a good time!"

The nearby Downtown Las Vegas Events Center was also set up for days of entertainment and rodeo watch parties.
