LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Nevada Department of Transportation wants to know what you think about the Interstate 15 corridor between Las Vegas and the California state line.
The department on Monday announced the launch of a public comment period to solicit feedback about potential improvements to the area's infrastructure.
Public comment is open from August 24 through September 25 at I15StatelineSloan.com.
There will also be an in-person public meeting where locals can share their thoughts on Wednesday, September 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at South Career and Technical Academy.
In its news release, NDOT acknowledges that, while this I-15 corridor serves as a vital connector between the Las Vegas metropolitan area and Southern California, "much of this corridor remains underdeveloped."
"Public input is vital to identifying the long-term needs of this section of I-15," a department spokesperson wrote.
NDOT plans to use the public's feedback to develop an understanding of planned growth in the area and evaluate future traffic demands.
Those who regularly travel I-15 south of the Las Vegas Valley are likely familiar with some of the issues drivers encounter on the road. As Channel 13 has reported, the corridor has been a pain point for many locals and tourists over the years.
During peak travel times over holiday weekends, the area can regularly see traffic backups that last for several miles and extend the commute into and out of Southern Nevada.
Just last Friday, southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down after a hit-and-run crash that stopped traffic from Nevada into California for several hours.
