LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Boulevard Mall is taking action after a shooting inside the Rex Center left four people injured just days before Christmas.

Management remained tight-lipped after the incident but told 13 Action News that they had put a stop to any more after-hours events at the moment.

“They have family stuff, but it's always dead because people are scared to travel down this way," said Michael Bozeman, a nearby resident.

Bozeman also said that safety is a top priority for him and his family. Especially after the deadly incident this past December.

“I was getting off of work, and my wife was calling me as this was happening near the house," Bozeman said.

Wednesday, the doors of the Rex Center inside the mall remain closed with a sign on the door stating that it will be reopening.

13 Action News called the center for comment, but the request was not immediately returned.

Boulevard Ventures, LLC told 13 Action News that protocol states the Rex Center is required to hire licensed outside security for any after-hours events and required to have enough security personnel based on the number of people attending and the activity.

Management confirmed that the center had security working that night.

"It's messed up, you wouldn't think it would happen inside the mall or anything like that, that's a place we go to have fun and connect,” said one shopper.

However, isn't the first time trouble has surfaced at the mall.

In May of 2018, police were called with reports of a masked man walking through the mall with a gun and causing mass chaos.

Also, this past July police said a man was shot and killed at Molasky Family Park across the street from the mall.

“This area it's like they can't get control of it,” Bozeman said.

Management could not confirm if the Rex Center will in fact reopen.
