ORIGINAL STORY
NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- North Las Vegas police say they shot and killed a man during a stolen car chase shortly after midnight Jan. 2.

The incident began when an officer became suspicious of a car near Alexander Road and Revere Street. It was discovered that the car had been stolen during a carjacking and the police officers attempted to stop the vehicle.

The person driving the car attempted to escape, said North Las Vegas Police Department public information officer Eric Leavitt. The pursuit lasted for several miles and a Las Vegas police helicopter assisted. The driver was finally cornered in a parking lot of a CVS pharmacy near Craig Road and Allen.

The man hit several police cars in the parking lot before ramming one of the cars.

Both police officers in that police vehicle fired at least once. The man was taken out of the stolen car and placed in handcuffs. Medical personnel arrived on scene and pronounced him deceased. A police officer also received minor injuries during the incident.

Police say body cameras worn by the police officers were activated at the time of the shooting.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area of Craig and Allen. There will be road closures in place for several hours.

The Clark County coroner will release the name of the deceased after notification has been made.
