POLICE: Man fleeing park police officer causes fatal crash Sunday

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department say that a man fleeing the park police was the cause of a fatal crash on Sunday morning.

It all began around 7:15 a.m. when a Clark County Park Police officer spotted a 2006 Mercury Montego leaving Paradise Park near Tropicana Avenue and Pecos-McLeod Drive at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to stop the driver but the car kept going.

The Montego, which was traveling west, failed to stop for a red light and hit a GMC Terrain near Eastern and Tropicana avenues.

The crash resulted in both vehicles crossing into the eastbound lanes where 5 vehicles were waiting for the light to change. The officer saw the crash from a distance.

Multiple people were transported to Sunrise Hospital, including the driver of the GMC Terrain. That driver died from his injuries.

35-year-old Lonnie Isabell is facing several charges including DUI resulting in substantial bodiuly harm and vehicular homicide. He was also transported to Sunrise Hospital and booked in absetntia.

The Clark County coroner identified the person deceased in the crash as 66-year-old Rizal Benjamin, of Las Vegas, who passed away from blunt force injuries as a result of the accident.
