LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Two accused burglars may have found some of their targets in an unlikely place: obituaries.
According to Henderson police, Shawn Baird and Yolanda Gonzalez are connected to four burglaries — three in Henderson and one in Las Vegas — involving homes where residents had recently died.
Police say more than $600,000 in cash and property was taken.
When Daphne Higgins learned a home just a few doors down from hers had been broken into, she says it caught her off guard. And what police believe brought the accused burglars to the area made it even more unsettling for her.
"People today don't care. They have no respect," Higgins said.
Investigators say they found a connection between the homes Baird and Gonzalez are accused of burgling: obituaries.
Police say Baird followed a Facebook page called "Obituaries in Las Vegas - Nevada," and they believe he may have used it to find potential victims.
Baird and Gonzalez are now facing felony charges, including home invasion, burglary and grand larceny.
Police also noted that Baird has prior criminal cases for charges that include burglary, possession of stolen property and grand larceny.
