Police: Burglary attempt leads to unintentional fire in northwest Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Police say a man broke into a home in northwest Las Vegas this morning before being caught nearby.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department received a call just before 7:20 a.m. about a burglary at a home on Rhett Street near Ann Road and Torrey Pines Drive.

Police say a man in the home was hit with an item by a burglary suspect. The suspect then left the scene.

As police were responding to the call, they found the suspect trying to break into another home on the 6600 block of Hammer Lane. He then ran onto a another property on Hammer Lane.

As he was trying to get away, police say he dropped an item that started a fire. The suspect was stopped by a police dog.

Police say they do not believe the fire was started intentionally. The incident remains under investigation.
